This is essentially going to be my introductory post for this blog!

Its purpose is to document my context of practice 2 (aka COP2) work for the first semester of my level 5 fashion course. My – tentative – theme is going to be “the aesthetics of identity”; how identity politics can manifest in our day to day attire. (This is, of course, subject to change as I continue with the project LOL)

Themes of identity are something that has always been very important to me and my work. My first ever fashion project on my foundation course (which helped me realise my love of menswear design!) focused heavily on the idea of deconstructing gender dress codes and subversions of both historical and contemporary cultural influence on garments! I followed it up with a project themed around liminality, which heavily explored the idea of liminal identities such as nonbinary genders and sexualities, along with more traditional definitions of liminality and liminal spaces – work for this project can be found early into my fashion/art-specific instagram!

Exploring the kind of concepts and ideas I’m passionate about through this ongoing blog as I work to design and manufacture an accessory to fit with my theme will hopefully be a very fun experience for me…and a big learning curve, since I’ve never really considered accessories too deeply with regards to my designs!

Thanks for reading!
